For most salons in Pakistan, WhatsApp is the front desk after hours. Clients book on it, ask about prices on it, and expect a reminder on it the day before their appointment. If your salon sends those messages through an automated tool, your costs changed on 1 October 2026.
This guide explains what changed, what each type of salon message now costs, and a few simple ways to keep reminders working without letting the bill creep up.
What changed on 1 October 2026
Meta charges businesses per delivered message on the WhatsApp Business Platform, which is the system that automated messaging tools and providers connect to. It does not charge for messages that clients send to you. The price depends on the type of message and the country of the person receiving it.
Meta's own rate card for Pakistan, effective 1 October 2026, lists these prices per delivered message:
Marketing -> Promotions, offers, birthday deals -> $0.0473 Utility -> Confirmations, reminders and other transactional updates -> $0.015 Authentication -> One time login or verification codes -> $0.015 Service -> Normal replies typed in an open 24 hour chat window -> $0.015, after 1,000 free per month
Three things changed at once for Pakistani businesses:
- Utility and authentication messages went up. Meta's notice listed Pakistan among the markets with a utility and authentication increase. Alibaba Cloud's summary of the change shows the rate moving from $0.01 to $0.015 per message. Meta had already raised Pakistan's utility rate once before, on 1 April 2026.
- Service replies are no longer free without limit. Each business phone number now gets 1,000 free service messages a month. From the 1,001st, Meta charges for each one. The free allowance resets monthly and does not roll over.
- Utility templates inside the 24 hour window are charged. From 1 July 2025 to 30 September 2026, Meta did not charge for a utility template sent while a client's 24 hour chat window was open. That is no longer the case.
The marketing rate for Pakistan did not change in October.
ProPakistani reported on 15 September 2026 that the new $0.015 rate for utility, authentication and service messages is around 11 times India's $0.0014 for the same categories, and higher than the rates listed for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. For salons that rely on WhatsApp for bookings, it is worth checking what this means for your monthly bill.
What this means for a salon's messages
Here is how common salon messages map to Meta's categories. Meta decides the final category of each template, so treat this as a guide and check with your provider.
- Booking confirmations and appointment reminders. These are transactional, so they are usually utility templates at $0.015 each.
- "Your bridal trial is tomorrow" or "your package has 2 sessions left". Also informational updates about an existing booking or purchase, so usually utility.
- Winter facial offers, Eid deals, birthday discounts. These are promotional, so they are marketing templates at $0.0473 each, more than three times the utility rate.
- Your receptionist answering "do you have a slot at 5?" If it is a normal reply inside the open 24 hour window, it is a service message. The first 1,000 each month are free on each business number.
A quick example using Meta's rates: 1,000 appointment reminders now cost $15 in Meta fees, compared with $10 at the old rate. A promotional blast to the same 1,000 clients costs $47.30. Your provider may add its own platform fee or markup on top of Meta's charges, so ask for both numbers.
Five ways to keep WhatsApp costs under control
1. Send one reminder that does the work of two
A confirmation when the booking is made and a reminder before the visit are both useful. Avoid sending a third and fourth message for the same appointment. Put the date, time, stylist and your cancellation note in one clear reminder.
2. Keep promotions targeted
Because marketing messages cost the most, send offers to the clients who are likely to use them, such as people who booked a facial last winter, rather than your whole contact list. A smaller, relevant list also keeps the cost of each campaign down.
3. Watch your 1,000 free service replies
If your salon has more than one branch on the same WhatsApp number, all their replies count toward that number's single free allowance. Ask your provider how many service messages you used last month so you know whether you are close to the limit.
4. Use email where clients are happy with it
Email reminders do not go through Meta's rate card. For corporate clients or regulars who check email, an email confirmation can sit alongside a single WhatsApp reminder.
5. Ask your provider four questions
- Which currency am I billed in, and is that currency fixed for my account?
- Do you add a platform fee or a markup per message?
- How are my reminder templates categorised by Meta?
- Is there a payment method on my account? Meta says that without one, service messages beyond the free tier will not be delivered.
How SalonFlow fits in
Good reminders start with a clean appointment book. SalonFlow includes appointment scheduling and SMS and email alerts on its Premium and Luxury plans, so confirmations and reminders come from the same system your front desk uses to book clients. The SalonFlow features page also lists a WhatsApp Marketing Platform integration for appointment reminders and confirmations. Ask our team about it when you book a demo, so you know exactly how it works and what it costs for your salon.
Because client profiles and booking history live in one place, it is also easier to choose who should receive a promotion instead of messaging everyone.
Want to see it on your own salon's bookings? Book a free SalonFlow demo online, or ask for a free onsite visit.

According to Meta's rate card effective 1 October 2026, a marketing message to a Pakistani number costs $0.0473, and a utility, authentication or service message costs $0.015. Did WhatsApp prices go up in Pakistan in October 2026?
Yes. Meta listed Pakistan among the markets whose utility and authentication rates increased on 1 October 2026, from $0.01 to $0.015 per message according to Alibaba Cloud's summary of the change. Service replies beyond 1,000 a month, and utility templates sent inside an open 24 hour window, also became chargeable on that date. The marketing rate did not change.
Are salon appointment reminders marketing or utility messages?
A reminder or confirmation about an existing booking is transactional, so it is usually a utility template, which costs $0.015 in Pakistan. Promotions, discounts and offers are marketing templates. Meta decides the final category of each template, so confirm with your provider.
Do clients pay anything when they message my salon on WhatsApp?
Meta does not charge businesses for messages that clients send to them. Charges apply to messages the business delivers to clients.
Is the 1,000 free messages allowance per salon or per number?
It is per business phone number, per month. Meta says the allowance resets monthly and unused messages do not roll over. If several branches share one number, they share one allowance.
Can a salon reduce WhatsApp costs without stopping reminders?
Yes. Combine confirmation details into one reminder, send promotions only to relevant clients, track how many free service replies you use, and use email for clients who prefer it. Also ask your provider whether it adds a platform fee on top of Meta's charges.
